The Dutch Land Goat is nowadays usually kept as a hobby goat or at the petting zoo. In addition, they can be used for the maintenance and grazing of nature reserves. To a limited extent, they are also kept as milk goat.

Appearance:
This medium-sized goat stands out because of its sturdy and rather large horns. The horns are also present in the goat, but are a lot smaller in size. The hair on the goat is quite long and often he wears a buck. The coat of the goat is shorter. The Land Goat can occur in a large number of different colors. Usually he is colored mainly white with black, blue and / or brown spots. Goats with white, black and beige colors also occur.

Particularities:
The Dutch Land Goat was almost extinct because it was crossed with all sorts of other breeds over time. At the end of the fifties, the last two copies were donated to Diergaarde Blijdorp. By breeding in a careful way with other remaining land goats, the breed was retained. In the meantime more than 1000 goats are present in the Netherlands. This classic variety is strong and can withstand a somewhat colder climate. It is therefore also used for grazing and maintaining nature reserves. The studbook for the Dutch Land Goat is conducted by Landelijke Fokkersclub Nederlandse Landgeiten.
